There is nothing quite as dreamy as a snuggly romantic break in Dorset. There’s just something about a frosty morning that seems to make the rolling countryside even more romantic.  Whether it’s a winter’s stroll along a beautiful deserted beach or snuggling up in front of a toasty log fire that sparks your romantic side, Dorset has every box ticked! For 10 fun and whimsical things to do for couples on your romantic winter break, look no further!

1. Get steamy on Swanage Railway

Taking a ride on a real old-fashioned steam train is the perfect way to begin your romantic break in Dorset. Explore six miles of beautiful views and scenery with your loved one from Wareham to Swanage, passing the stunning ruins of Corfe Castle on the way. For a real romantic experience, why not try one of the dining trains and enjoy a cream tea or full course meal? Step back in time on your winter break and get steamy on one of Britain’s most popular heritage railways!

2. Take a romantic stroll in the heart of Dorset

Beach walks are often hugely underrated, but getting out onto Dorset’s coastline can be very romantic. Wrap up warm, get those boots on and set off hand in hand! I’d recommend Weymouth for some of the best beachy walks in the area but pick any one of the gorgeous Dorset coastlines and you won’t be disappointed. There’s certainly plenty to choose from! And if the fresh winter air gets a bit too much for you both, the trip will give you a great excuse to light up a toasty log fire when you get home!

3. Get your skates on

Ice skating is sure to love you both up as you grab on to each other tightly. Weymouth has a pop up rink that runs through right until January, so there’s plenty of time to get your skates on! Tickets can be purchased from just £5 and sessions are 45 minutes long. There are even silent disco events to really get you moving.

4. Wine and Dine at Al Molo Restaurant

Finding a great restaurant to wine and dine at can be just the thing you need to spark some romance! Dorset has some fabulous restaurants to choose from, but we suggest going for somewhere luxury with lots of ambience. Al Molo has stunning views across the Weymouth Esplanade and some delicious Italian food and wine on offer. The perfect place to spend some quality time together on your romantic break!

5. Relax at Bindon Abbey Wellness Retreat

Get a real sense of rejuvenation and relaxation at Bindon Abbey Wellness Retreat. The grounds surrounding the spa are absolutely stunning and feature the ruins of Bindon Abbey itself– perfect to help you both wind down! After all, that’s what holidays are for! Treat yourselves to ‘The Divine Ritual’ collection, which includes a premium facial, massage and light lunch.

6. Soak up Dorset’s rich history

When visiting a new town or county, I always like to learn something about where I’m staying. Dorset County Museum in Dorchester is the perfect place to absorb lots of information about Dorset’s past. Learn about Thomas Hardy’s works, dig for Jurassic fossils and stroll through the Victorian Hall with your loved one. Tickets can be purchased from just £3.50.

7. The Rex – Wareham

Taking a trip to the cinema is often considered a romantic date night. However, if you fancy something a bit more unique on your romantic break, why not try The Rex Cinema in Wareham? The décor originates from the 1920s and there’s a bar so you can take in an ice cold drink to sip on. They also host special event evenings and theatre nights. Tickets are priced from £5.00-£6.50.

 8. Get Cheeky at Monkey World

Make sure you don’t miss Monkey World, near Wool, on your romantic break! Although it’s great for families, there’s plenty to do for couples too. Take a look at the cute little spider monkeys and get up and close with the lemurs on your visit. Monkey World aim to rescue and rehabilitate many of their primates, so you’ll be helping a really good cause by visiting!

9. See Corfe Castle in its best light

Taking a wonder through the Corfe Castle ruins is a must if you’re holidaying in Dorset this winter. As one of the most iconic survivors of the Civil War, there’s plenty of interesting history to absorb during your visit. On selected dates, the castle opens until 7pm so you have time to explore the Christmas tree and Tudor themed decorations well into the evening. There’s events of Elizabethan storytelling and ancient feasts to be enjoyed, but seeing the castle lit up with lanterns, light displays and illuminations is something not to be missed!

10. Snuggle up in front of an open fire

Although it’s wonderful to get out and about on your romantic winter break, sometimes absolutely nothing beats an evening snuggled up in front of a toasty log fire. Grab a bottle of wine and some chocolates and you’re all set for a very romantic evening!
