Why Stay in a Corfe Castle Cottage?

Cottages in Corfe Castle are really popular for those that love this iconic village.  Staying in 300 year old cottages gives guests the chance to experience staying in places with historic ambience – large inglenook fireplaces where dinner was cooked and exposed wooden beams.

Corfe Castle is a pretty stone village at the foot of Corfe Castle ruins, which is now managed by the National Trust.  The village is one of Dorset’s most popular holiday destinations with breath-taking walks, old inns, tea rooms, a museum and a model village.  The village and castle are located between Wareham and Swanage, about 5 miles from the coast. A ride on the traditional Swanage steam railway will take you into the heart of the seaside town.  If you’re looking for more modern ways to travel, the village is well connected by bus.

Corfe Castle Visitor FAQ

Most of the cottages in Corfe Castle are very old, dating back hundreds of years and many are said to have been made using the stone from the blown up castle.  The cottages around the village square and leading away along East and West St are the oldest.  As you reach the out limits of the village the houses turn into more modern types of houses – mostly detached with good sized gardens.

The older cottages tend to have lower ceilings and steeper stairs – so those with mobility problems might want to chose from the more modern houses that can be found on the roads coming off of East St and towards the end of West St (which leads to Corfe Castle common).  The village itself is fairly easy to get around with pavements along the main roads.  Families are very well catered for as the beach is only five miles away and there are lots of attractions that are aimed at families.

Corfe Castle village sqaure does get busy in the summer months but the surrounding footpaths and countryside are relatively quiet.  In the summer months we would recommend booking tables at places to eat as we get a lot of visitors.  Spring, Autumn and Winter are lovely times to visit.

Yes cottages in Corfe Castle have thick walls and ambient atmospheres – they are quiet with quaint relaxing touches such as open fires, exposed beams and cute cottage gardens.

Yes there are other types of accommodation in the village but the provision of apartments is very small.  In our portfolio there are modern bungalows and houses available to rent.
