When your work revolves around the beauty of Dorset, it takes something truly special to make you pause and fall in love with the landscape all over again. That something, for us, came in the form of an unforgettable afternoon at Sae Seaweed Spa, nestled right on Studland Beach.
Myself, Melissa, and my colleague, Karen, spend our days connecting visitors with the best places to stay in this breathtaking county, but every now and then, we get to experience Dorset as guests ourselves — and this gifted spa experience was just that kind of treat.
The day began with a brave (and slightly squealy) dip in the sea. The water was crisp, the kind that stings your skin and wakes your soul. But there we were, the first swim of the year, grinning ear to ear as we paddled and admired the grand view of Old Harry Rocks. The sand between our toes a gentle reminder that summer isn’t too far away.
After our invigorating swim, we wrapped ourselves up in our towels and headed toward the sanctuary of the Sae Seaweed Spa, where the team were already preparing our luxurious rolltop seaweed baths. As the baths filled with warm, mineral-rich water, the aroma of the ocean mingled with fresh botanicals. The experience felt not only pampering, but also deeply rooted in nature.
The team at Sae Seaweed Spa are passionate about the healing powers of seaweed. The baths are made with hand-harvested seaweed, foraged from the Dorset coast by licensed experts at Fore / Adventure. When the seaweed is steeped in hot water, it releases a rich blend of natural oils, minerals, and antioxidants that are incredibly nourishing for the skin and soothing for tired muscles. This isn’t just a bath — it’s a full-body tonic inspired by centuries of coastal wellness traditions.
We loved learning how this seaweed-based therapy — historically used in thalassotherapy — can benefit everything from circulation to skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. And knowing it was 100% natural, sustainably harvested, and completely local made the whole experience feel even more authentic and restorative.
Once we slipped into our warm baths (set to a perfectly steamy 40 degrees), the chill from the sea melted away. We added our freshly made masks and scrubs to the ritual — I chose chamomile for my face and a peppermint foot scrub. Each blend was made on the spot, using 100% natural ingredients.
Time slowed down as we gazed out over the beach, the scent of salt and herbs mingling in the warm air. Our skin felt soft, our minds relaxed
We left the Sae Seaweed Spa completely rejuvenated, glowing from both the warmth of the baths and the calm that lingered with us for the rest of the afternoon. It was a glorious, grounding experience that reminded us how special this stretch of coastline truly is – and Sae Seaweed is one of its best kept secrets.
For those staying in Studland, we thoroughly recommend a visit to this hidden coastal spa haven. It’s a one-of-a-kind way to connect with nature and nourish your body and soul. Until next time, we’ll be dreaming of seaweed, warm baths, and the magic of the spending a little time to unwind by the sea.
