I wanted to say that we had a lovely stay, totally perfect in every way.
Tanglewood was lovely! Just a short walk into Swanage, easy for the beaches and facilities but also peaceful and leafy, ideally situated on the edge of Durlston Country Park with fantastic walks, sea views and even better, dark night skies! We're both astronomers you see, and the night view from the clifftops was truly stunning. Convenient too for Corfe, Durdle Door and Lulworth, all great places for night time photography.... Finally having off-street parking and level access was really important too, as my wife is disabled and uses a wheelchair, so Tanglewood was great for us. The welcome pack was very welcome, and (other than pegs for the washing) everything was spot on. It was good to find out there was wifi too, though we tried to stay offline 🙂 So in summary the cottage was totally perfect for us, we adored it and never wanted to leave! We will be back 🙂
This characterful bungalow is set in a quiet residential area and has a driveway with ample safe parking. The kitchen was clean and well equipped, the bedrooms were large and comfortable. The main bathroom was clean and well presented. The lounge had a relaxing and homely feel, with a large window and French doors overlooking the well looked-after garden. The spacious dining hall provided all the room we needed at meal times.
During our stay, we had two pleasant surprises, the first being a really nice apple cake, milk and a bottle of wine waiting for us upon our arrival and the second was a couple of days into our holiday, where we had a deer stood right outside the French doors on the gravelled driveway! We took the option of having Wi-fi at an additional charge and we're glad that we did because we couldn't get a 4G signal in the immediate area.
Tanglewood comes highly recommended if you are able to walk up relatively steep hills (the bungalow is in a dip either side). If we're ever back in Swanage, we wouldn't hesitate to book this place again.
The cottage has everything you could need, and the garden is perfect for relaxing in. A few other reviewers have mentioned the climb out of Swanage - we found the easiest (and most gradual) route back up was to walk out to Peveril Point and walk up the Downs. The views are beautiful too!
Wouldn't hesitate to return again!
It was in a nice position near the country park and in walking distance of the town. It is a bit of a pull up the hill so my 84 year old mother-in-law needed a lift. There is a bus but you have to come home early as it stops around 5pm.
There were lots of toys which my 1-year old enjoyed playing with and the child's curtained cubby hole was sweet. It did seem odd though that the double bed wasn't in that room, it would seem more likely that a little child would be in with their parents; we had to fit the travel cot into the smaller room.
Washing machine didn't spin anymore, but oven and dishwasher were fine. Garden was nice and secure but a new washing line would be helpful.
All in all it was comfortable and just what we needed for our holiday.
Went during carnival week so had plenty to do. This time round went to Brownsea Island, chain ferry to Poole first £1 pp return and then £19 family return to Brownsea and really easy to organise. We also went to Corfe castle and Studland beaches. In town we ate at the Hungry Shark (fish and chips) and went into Wareham to eat at the dinosaur themed SteakAsaurus (burgers, steak and chips). Played mini golf in Swanage which was also Dino themed and a bit of a hoot. Again didn't have enough time to see and do all that Dorset offers
The bungalow was in a superb position close to coastal walks and to Swanage-we walked into Swanage down the grassy bank leading to Peverill Point and so on into town. Using the pay phone in the kitchen was a mystery and we only tried once since it took a pound coin and gave nothing else.
The garden we took full advantage of after a days walking. A lovely garden. Overall, a good holiday.
Well equipped with just about everything you need for your holiday.
Great bungalow on the edge of Swanage handy for Durlston Country Park walks. Still close enough to town centre to use buses/steam train and get to pubs and restaurant on foot if you can manage hills. Plenty of parking on gravel drive.
Best-equipped kitchen ever seen. Also, plentiful equipment like Iron, cleaning materials, vacuum etc.
Good double bedroom with large fitted wardrobe and sink. Second bedroom (used only 2 nights) is bigger with 3 single beds, one separated by curtain.
Bathroom and cloakroom are at centre of property with no windows, so no natural ventilation and steamy. Not to my personal preference but wouldn't bother many people. Still happy to give 5 stars though.
Lots to do in area by bus (get the £24 7-day pass for Bournemouth/Poole/Corfe Castle/Brownsea Island/Studland/Wareham) and car can be used for more remote areas like Lulworth and Kimmeridge Bay.
Steam trains in Swanage a great attraction.
5/5
Swanage area is lovely.
Tanglewood is opposite the Durleston Country Park with the entrance to the woods opposite. Walk was lovely but very hilly. Walk down to Swanage was 10-15 mins downhill so do expect a trek home. We tried a couple of routes home and found the route from the pier up the Durleston Rd the less taxing. (Still a hike mind!)
Recommend the carnival week as there is so much going on. Too much to say here but highlights were fireworks, carnival parade and Red Arrows. (Recommend ordering a programme before you go to plan your week. We did and it helped)
Around Swanage we visited Studland Bay a couple of times, Corfe Castle, Putlake animal Farm (wet day) and of course the beach.
So much to do that we could have easily stayed another couple of days. For once, reluctant to return home!
Just one suggestion. There is a shower above the bath but no shower curtain, hooks are there for one. When you use the shower the water goes everywhere. Not everyone wants to bath and this is my only negative point.
Another very good weeks stay, the weather was very good as well.
Problem with electrics quickly and efficiently dealt with.
An opportunity for lots of walks in the area and Swanage is ideally placed for lots of visits in the region and only a short drive back to Poole, Sandbanks or Bournemouth.
Tanglewood was well maintained and spotless, a credit to the cleaning staff. We would hope to visit again in the future, The only reservation is that the property is quite a climb up from the town centre and sea front. However we managed it but you can drive down and park if necessary. The property is very quietly situated
The normal changeover for this property is a Saturday, though this is flexible out of season and over Christmas.
