May Day is coming and I invite you to join in the medieval festival and ‘to come a Maying’. A time for frivolity and gay abandon. What better place to enjoy your time in the spring sunshine and budding fauna than in the beautiful surrounds of the Dorset Countryside and Coast. Find yourself a maypole and join in the festivities of this fun packed May Bank Holiday. You are bound to find many a folk wearing their bells and beating each other with sticks, whilst dancing and performing their traditional rituals.
Dorset Buttons, one of our most famous Morris dancing troops will be performing their annual spectacles throughout Dorset. Call for their itinerary on 01929 556804.
Perhaps a pilgrimage to the ‘Tolpuddle Matyrs Museum’ near Dorchester is in order. After all this hard fought for day of rest was won by their sacrifice. 01305 584257.

Beer Festival – Greyhound Public House in Corfe Castle. 29th April to 2nd May. Over 200 ales and ciders to sample in their lovely beer garden in the shade of Corfe Castle.

Tiger Day – Bovinton Tank Museum – 30th April. See Tiger 131 in action on this day. Tiger 131 is our most famous tank and is the only running Tiger 1 tank in the world.
Dorst Knob Throwing and Frome Valley Food Festival – Dorchest – 1st May. The world –famous Dorset Knob Throwing competition returns as part of the Frome Valley Food Festival. Besides knob throwing there will be addition fun knob attractions including knob eating, knob painting, a knob egg and spoon race, guess the weight of the big knob, knob darts and a knob pyramid.
Blandford Georgian Fayre – Blandford – 2nd May. Over 30,000 people are expected to descend on the Georgian town of Blandford Forum as the Blandford Georgian Fayre starts on Bank Holiday Monday. 2nd May, between 10am and 6pm.
Diesel Gala and Bear Festival – Swanage – 6th May. The Diesel Gala, held by the Swanage Historic Railway will see and impressive line-up of diesel locomotives operating on the Swanage Railway.
