We are delighted to be able to present this wonderful architecturally designed, large family holiday home. Completed to the highest standard which incorporates a sumptuous interior. Its open plan design, galleried first floor landing and very large kitchen makes this the ideal choice for the extended family, walkers and those of you who wish to relax in this stylish property set in the heart of the English coastal countryside. Situated off a level farm track, Canaan has off road parking for 3 vehicles, a very large and sunny patio to the rear of the property accessed via a choice of two double patio doors.
A rural idyll with fantastic views across open farmland to Winspit and the sea, Canaan has been constructed on the edge of the sought after village of Worth Matravers. The area is renowned for a dramatic coastline, with its famous caves and scenes used in Doctor Who's Darlek adventures.
This fantastic home is set at the centre of a network of footpaths that lead to the Jurassic coast or the pretty village of Corfe Castle. The village is a short drive from the small seaside town of Swanage and the Saxon walled town of Wareham.

The owner of Canaan was really helpful. The local pub in the village (Square and Compass) made fantastic pasties with a great range of ales so you could sit outside, look at the view and have lunch. The Tea and Supper room served excellent cakes and scones next to the pond with ducks on the village green. How idyllic! Walks to nearby Chapmans Pool and the Dancing Ledge were spectacular.
The village location is perfect.
It was our second time there and we weren't disappointed.
We highly recommend this property
The bedrooms were a good size with very adequate bathroom facilities. The kitchen was very well equipped and the lounge comfortable and spacious.
There is however just one thing. A couple of the bases of the single beds were a bit unsteady which resulted in one member of our group not sleeping well over the period of our stay.. This was not reported to the owner at the time as it was a holiday period and we did not think it was something that the owner could do anything about.
Overall, we had a lovely time and were very pleased with the property.
Our little granddaughter loved the galleried landing where she could look down on the kitchen, and the garden was very safe for her. Lovely to see cows passing. We were very lucky with weather so got the most out of the views and the sunrise over the sea at Winspit. Some of us enjoyed the walks, one day to Swanage and one day to Scott Arms at Kingston via Chapman's Pool - stunning views., whilst others enjoyed Monkey World.
I would highly recommend this property and would love to go back again.
The house itself was lovely, well equipped, clean and tidy and very comfortable. Not the greatest of sound proofing though but this was tolerable.
Clearer instructions about recycling would have been helpful, as we ended up not having ours collected.
Given it is by a diary, there are a lot of flies, but again, these were tolerable.
The nearby pub is good if unusual. The village shop seemed to keep very odd hours which was frustrating if you just needed basics, as this meant a car journey into the next village.
Overall, I would not hesitate to reccommend Canaan as a holiday home, we had a great relaxing time there, it is a great location for travelling from and i reckon we may well go back.
My husband and I had the upstairs twin room. I did find the wardrobe and hangers a bit lacking though appreciate the decor scheme . Also the single mattresses are getting to the end of their life.
I hope this is a constructive criticism .
I would definitely use Dorset Holidays again and think the layout/info of the brochure is superb.
It's in a quiet, rural location with a footpath around a 100m from the house that leads to the nearby stunning coastal trails.
We used the house for doing a combination of lovely local coastal walks and touring the beautiful surrounding area.
The owner was friendly and helpful - he checked everything was fine with us and also gave good local advice.
We will certainly go back there if we want to visit the area again.
One thing that must be pointed out was that the mattress on the double bed was rather firm, but generally the house was very comfortable, especially with the wood burner alight in the spacious living area.
Rather surprised by the lack of welcome pack, but the pack of biscuits and carton of milk were very much appreciated.
We had such a lovely relaxing time in this very special property in such a superb village that we hope to return again later this year
It was just what we were looking for and we will definitely stay there again.
We would have no hesitation in returning.
The design of the cottage is a triumph - our toddling granddaughter could safely explore inside and out - with that added excitement of passing tractors - while we could prepare meals and relax in one communal space, making the most of the view down to Winspit.
We had a wonderful week, helped by blue skies and sunshine, I hope we will be back one day. Thank you.
We were absolutely delighted with our choice and cannot fault a thing.
The cottage it's self was amazing, so spacious and perfect open plan so I could cook whilst the others watched a film or 2. We each had our own bedroom and our own bathroom. The walks were incredible and the village of worth matravers is a lovely quaint English village but be prepared to stock up on everything before you get there as there isn't really a supply shop and make sure you take cash if you want to visit the square and compass as they do not except cards, not that this bothered us as swanage is such a short drive away and a great excuse to pop out for some proper fish and chips. We walked into Kingston the back way which was enjoyable and tiring and spent some time in the pub there staring over corfe castle. When we go down to the area we always make sure that our first stop is norden farm so we can pick up all the local produce for our fry ups plus some very good mince, at very good prices we highly recommend stopping off there. The walks in the surrounding area of Canaan are amazing and the views on top of the cliff tops are incredible. We can't wait to go back, it will be hard to decide on something else rather than Canaan but we generally have a rule of not staying in the same place twice, however we do know we will be booking again with Dorset holiday cottages as they were great.
Will definitely return.
Great weekend though and lovely to have bread etc on arrival.
