New Cottage for 2022

Excellent

9.3 out of 10

Pembroke Cottage is a rendered Purbeck stone cottage, one of five cottages on an elevated terrace enjoying views across the village of Langton Matravers to Swanage Bay and the Isle of Wight. The cottage is a typical quarryman’s cottage and boasts many original features.

The front door of this 19th century cottage opens directly into the cosy lounge complete with wood burner, comfortable leather sofas and solid oak flooring retaining its olde charm. Living room leads to a compact yet bright and fully equipped kitchen to allow guests to make all their favourite meals. The staircase by the kitchen will take you directly to the first floor, where you find a cosy single bedroom, equipped with a large shelving for your favourite books. Family bathroom showcasing coloured glass block window is on the same floor along with light double bedroom. Beyond that a second set of stairs leads up to a delightful double bedroom which used to be an attic, and therefore has some reduced head-height. Guests should be aware that head height of the stairs is very restricted.

Make the most of the enclosed garden, over the walkway, in front of the main door, fully equipped with garden furniture and BBQ. Why not take a well-deserved family break in this quaint Purbeck cottage? Heavenly evenings can be spent in front of the log burner or relax on a warm summer’s evening in the delightful garden.

Located at the centre of a network of coastal footpaths, you can walk to nearby Corfe Castle or into the larger seaside town of Swanage. Dancing Ledge and Chapman’s Pool are not to be missed with a memorable stop off at world renowned pub The Square & Compass, serving the best pasty and pint for miles.

This cottage has some low ceilings and doorways, and narrow stairs, typical of a 19th century cottage. The double bedroom in the attic room has particularly low ceilings. The cottage comfortably accommodates 4 guests plus baby/child. Head room over the bed is limited in the third bedroom and this is be more suitable as a child's bedroom.

Please note, the property seats 4 adults max comfortably.

Facilities:

Terraced. 3 Bedrooms. First floor: one double bedroom and one single bedroom. Second floor double bedroom (access via low sealing and stair rope). First floor family bathroom with full suite and shower over bath. Kitchen, gas oven and hob, fridge (ice box), smart boiling-water tap, dishwasher, microwave, new washing machine (replaced in October 2022) and breakfast bar area that seats 2. Lounge with TV, leather sofas for 4 adults, DVD and wood burner (starter logs provided). Garden with furniture and coal BBQ (separated by a footpath). Parking on road. Bed linen and towels included for all bookings. Travel Cot (no linen), Highchair and stairgate available on request. Wi-Fi. Gas central heating throughout. 2 small dogs are welcome, charge of £25 for the second dog applies.

New Cottage for 2022

The cottage was cozy and lovely, clean and well kitted out. It has very low ceilings, two of us couldn't stand up fully in the kitchen 🤣 but it was fine for a couple of days and the coziness of the cottage more than made up for it. It had everything we needed to cook beautiful food and the location is perfect for walking out the door for full days of hiking along the coast. I would recommend the flat. Excellent hosting too, very responsive and flexible.
Oliver - October, 2023 01/11/2023
Fantastic cottage, with quality furnishings and fittings, sweet garden that the dogs loved.
North - September, 2023 04/10/2023
Pembroke Cottage has a superb new kitchen with great use of space and all good quality equipment. The bathroom is also lovely and looks recently renovated to a high standard. Bedrooms are fine although I guess they might be next on the list for a refresh. Nice cottage for a mini break.
Rachael - April, 2023 01/05/2023
A great cottage to stay, a great location to be in, and a great host. Really positive time spent at Pembroke Cottage.
James - January, 2023 30/01/2023
This is a very well appointed little cottage everything you need is provided, even discovered the washing machine under the breakfast bar! Beware if you are tall as has very low beams especially the top bedroom, but it is otherwise perfectly formed. We took my elderly mum who is quite mobile and it was very warm in winter. It is a wonderful area we know well and walkable to village stores and pub ! Highly recommended.
Helen - December, 2022 12/01/2023
The accommodation suited us very well as a couple in our later 70s. One thing that was very pleasing: all the kitchen equipment, furniture, and so on was new. So many holiday cottages are spoiled by being furnished with 'granny's hand downs' and this is certainly not the case at Pembroke Cottage. The art work and book selection was excellent. We also liked the fact that the heating was on when we arrived - so nice that the owners don't penny-pinch and would rather their guests had a comfortable time. The only slight downside was parking on the main through road. Despite the 30mpg limit, the large lorries were unnerving as they swished by. We took to parking in the nearby cul-de-sac, Toms Field.
Terence Jones - October, 2022 08/11/2022
A really nice, well-presented cosy cottage in a great location. We had a comfortable stay and enjoyed the cottage and especially the small garden for evening drinks and BBQs. The host is very responsive and helpful at assisting in answering questions about the cottage. The cottage is small, however with two couples and a toddler and dog, we had the space we needed, and the kitchen is really functional as we cooked most nights during our stay. The room on the top floor has extremely limited headroom, only allowing you to stand in a very limited footprint of the overall room so although highlighted in the description, it was a surprise to us how much bending and ducking is needed. Overall a nice stay in a well presented cottage in a great location.
Dean - August, 2022 31/08/2022
We had a great short break at this lovely cottage. The owners have made fantastic use of the small space and everything was finished to a very high standard and was spotlessly clean. The kitchen was well kitted out and we appreciated the incredibly thoughtful welcome hamper. Location is great for accessing the beautiful coastline and surrounding attractions and we were so grateful to be able to bring our dogs. The owners have put together a comprehensive book of local information (we only live a short distance away In Dorset but this would be so useful for those new to the area). The cottage is full of character but, as such, the ceilings are low in some places and the outside space very limited/accessed by crossing a little path from the front door (as per the description). This wasn’t an issue for us but just flagging up for others. Happy to recommend! Thanks for a great stay.
Lauren - May, 2022 31/05/2022
Lovely cottage with a very well equipped and modern kitchen, although I couldn't find the colander until the last day when we were emptying the bins lol (it's on a deep shelf inside the bin drawer under the hob). The shower was great, better pressure than we get at home. The uneven floors and low beams added to the character. The beds were comfortable and the property was warm and cosy. The hamper of local produce was a lovely touch and delicious.
Maria Meades - May, 2022 17/05/2022
Had a lovely, cosy and relaxing time - just what we needed!
Amy and Family - February 2018 19/04/2022

We enjoyed a lovely three night stay at this charming cottage. the kitchen is beautifully equipped and a log burner was a wonderful especially as the weather was particularly cold. Great location for walking and nearby pubs. The Scot Arms in Kingston is recommended as we enjoyed a good meal in there. Overall a lovely stay and thoroughly recommended.
