The Old Bakehouse has recently been lovingly and tastefully renovated by the owners. This cottage affords comfortable, stylish, modern living in a prime seaside location, just a minute's flat walk from the seafront and blue flag golden sands.
Nestled in a small side road in the old town of Swanage, The Old Bakehouse provides spacious and well planned accommodation, coupled with the traditional cottage charm, a perfect choice for a family getaway!
With all amenities in walking distance, you can easily leave the car behind. Sandy beaches, coastal path walks, large public gardens, shopping facilities, bars, restaurants, the famous steam railway and mini seaside theme park to name but a few.
Whilst The Old Bakehouse does not have a garden, just a short stroll will take you to a delightful playpark, public picnic areas and fabulous walks with expansive sea views.

The challenge, which we proudly accomplished, was to reverse successfully into the garage fromhe narrow street - the only off-street parking available. There were enough on-street spaces, within a few minutes' walk, for the second car.
The Old Bakehouse is a well-executed conversion and modernisation, and is well-equipped. We'd happily stay there again!
That's the charm of Swanage: it's a little quirky . . . and timeless. It doesn't appear to have changed in more than 25 years we've been holidaying there. Yet its progressive town council hasn't let it degenerate: far from it. The town is always smart in a traditional sort of way.
But back to The Old Bakehouse, with its three comfortable bedrooms, two ample shower rooms, large kitchen/breakfast room and sizeable living room. Everything about it was warm, friendly and welcoming. And comfortable.
As many previous holidaymakers have discovered, parking - for one small car - is the holiday challenge of all holiday challenges! (Except, maybe, getting a hole in one on the putting green). I accepted the challenge to reverse into the 14ft x 10ft garage, with the manually-operated electric door, and succeeded with only two additional forward and reverse movements, and a gentle spot of extra throttle to heave the wheels up the hump at the entrance.
Deep satisfaction...!
If you've a second car, you can find kerbside parking up the hill about five minutes' walk away.
Were it not for the parking situation - understandably unavoidable considering the location - we'd have given The Old Bakehouse five stars.
I deducted one star because of the parking situation - the garage is very tricky !!!!
Super location in the middle of town yet quiet.
The garage is a good feature if somewhat tricky to negotiate in and out of. The electric door was not working and this had to be opened and closed by hand.
This was not a serious issue but it would have made things easier if it had been operational.
Kettle could do with descaling - couldnt get rid of the bits!
Despite the kettle Id recommend the cottage and Dorset Holidays.
Garage was too small for our car and the slight rise in the floor leads to scraping the bottom of the car, people need to be aware of this, we parked in local car park. No garden so might not be great with young children. Nevertheless, we loved it!
Overall, we would certainly consider coming back to the Old Bakehouse again in our next future visit to Swanage.
The one drawback was accessing the garage despite having a small car ie a Fiesta. Anything longer would require the door to be left open. As we had two cars , the availability of a nearby car space would have been welcome.
As we were essentially in three groups additional keys would have been appreciated, although I realise this could compromise the use of the key safe.
These last two suggestions are certainly not complaints but would make the cottage more user- friendly.
There is no garden but that was no problem to us in September - and it is very close to the shops and beach.
Parking is tight - a Golf fits in the garage with the door left raised. Again not a problem for us.
We had a lovely week with wonderful weather in this beautiful area of Dorset. Perfect for bird and wildlife lovers with Arne and Studland nearby and Portland and Radipole/Lodmore easily accessible.
We had a lovely break.
